Nano plastics vs krills

Scientists from British Antarctic Survey show the impact of plastic pollution on the marine ecosystem.

Krills are like shrimps and play a critical role in the polar oceans. First, they help the transport of carbon in the depts of the oceans and secondly, they are the main food for a lot of animals (whales, penguins..). So, the impact of nano plastics on their development could be an important threat to this fragile ecosystem.

“The team found that krill embryos exposed to nanoplastic pollution combined with future ocean acidification conditions were least likely to reach later developmental stages compared to embryos exposed to only nanoplastic or ocean acidification conditions as single effects.”
